I can’t go see this, but you should!  This is the sickest festival in Chicago!  This makes the Chicago Improv Festival look like the Chicago Improv Festival!

COME GET SOME!

Bedfest

Fun Fact!:  If you ask a Dutchman the time at sea he has to give you his shoes.

IT MUST BE TRUE!

So today I am in Cape Canaveral, Florida.  Specifically, I am at Merritt Square Mall!  It’s wonderful!  They have a Dillards, 3 hair-cutterys, and a FYE (which is in the constant process of going out of business)!  But something isn’t right…something is off about this mall…

Sexy and I know it

Well I have to admit that I’m cheating a bit on Day 2, but not too much!  Very recently my buddy turned 30 and had a party at a bar in Lincoln Park called Stanley’s located 1970 n Lincoln Ave.

                                                            Happy Birthday Vince

It was a really cool looking bar!  I’ve never been to Austin, but it reminds me of what I think Austin would be like.  There is a fake porch you can sit and drink on.  It also poured rain and I went out on the REAL porch and watched while I rocked in a rocking chair!

Needless to say it was a fun time!  However, it’s not only a bar, it’s also a restaurant!  Now, at Vince’s birthday we didn’t eat any food.  We just drank brews and made merry so I decided I wanted to come back and test their southern cooking.  And let me tell you I am glad I did!

Well that cat is out of the bag!  I enjoyed my meal greatly!  Now, it’s a southern style restaurant so I think to myself, “Fried Chicken!”  And they had it!  Now, it took a little while for the chicken to cook up so I ordered some mac and cheese fritters as an appetizer.

I will warn you, while this food is tasty I fear it may not be as healthy as a salad.  Next up is the fried chicken!  Boy was this good!  I was in heaven if heaven were real and made of fried chicken!  (Heaven might be real)

The food was great and the ambiance was enjoyable.  Plus, my waitress was from New Zealand!  So I got to combine my love of southern food with my love of foreign servants into one delicious meal!

My only complaint of the trip was their AC was broken and it was a muggy day.  Just, hot as heck.  But, I guess that made it more southern!  So I guess that’s a positive!  Forget that complaint and read my next sentence!

Also, it was really cool that the AC was out because it was a muggy day.  Just, hot as heck!  That made it more southern!

Good work Jeff!

I just want to sing, you guys!

So as of September 1st I have lived in the city of Chicago for 4 years.  That’s a long time.  That’s a whole college undergraduate degree!  It has also come to my attention that I am a man of habit.  I tend to spend the most of my times in the same bars, drinking the same beers, with the same idiots (friends.)  Now, I love my friends and I wouldn’t get rid of them for any money in the world so I decided that in honor of living in this city for four years I am gonna force myself to do something new each day.  Whether that is going to a new store, eating at a new restaurant.

Last night after doing a show at The Playground Theater me and my pals wanted to get a brewskie and unwind.  We thought about going to the regular bars (Town Hall Pub, L and L, Big City Tap) but I pushed for something new.  And that something new was…

Jake’s Pub on the corner of Clark and Oakdale.

How should I review these places?  Should I?  I don’t know.  I’ll just talk about it.  First of all, it was a dive.  BUT, it was a dive with room!  I know it was only a Tuesday night, but there was plenty of room for me and my buds to have our own end of the bar.

Look at that bar!

There was also a pool room in the back that was currently being used to store empty kegs.  Now that’s a good use of the space!  A lot of bars have separate rooms for storage but nobody was playing pool at the time, so that’s just smart.

There are plenty of beers to choose from, and reasonably priced at that.  Last night Heineken drafts were only $3 and PBR cans were only $2.50.  I had a Heineken and a PBR.  They passed my taste test!

As for payment, bring some cash because they don’t take cards and the ATM charges a $3 service fee.  That’s a friggin Heineken!

There is a lot of history to this bar too.  It’s been open since 1933 when prohibition was appealed.  Before that even it was a penny candy shop!  Feel free to read more about Jake’s Pub on their website!

So far, so good!  Let’s see what else Chicago has waiting for me!
